Coastline in Scope
Coastline in Scope: > 500 km
(Target 2028 Pipeline: > 1,100 km)
The Coastline in Scope metric tracks the linear sea exposure managed, protected, or targeted by the Coalition across the Mediterranean and Atlantic basins.
To maintain transparency, this metric is divided into two operational tiers: the Active Baseline (~500 km) currently governed by signed members, and the Prospective Pipeline (+600 km) representing target coastal cities set for engagement by 2028.
Coastline Overview & Distribution
- Active Coastline in Scope (Current): ~500 km
- Prospective Coastline Pipeline (By 2028): +600 km
- Total Target Impact Perimeter: > 1,100 km of direct municipal shoreline
Active Baseline (~500 km currently covered)
Includes only the direct maritime boundaries of active municipal members, local action groups, and NGOs formally part of the Coalition:
Major Municipal Shorelines (> 10 km)
La Oliva (ES – Canary Islands): ~90 km – Island shoreline including the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park.
Llanes (ES – Asturias): ~56 km – Atlantic cliffline and erosion-prone beaches.
Puerto del Rosario (ES – Canary Islands): ~45 km – Island capital shoreline exposed to marine climate hazards.
Carloforte (IT – San Pietro Island): ~33 km – Full perimeter of the island.
Genoa (IT – Liguria): ~33 km – Urban and industrial port waterfront.
Mazara del Vallo (IT – Sicily): ~30 km – Fishing port with critical Posidonia oceanica beds.
Catania (IT – Sicily): ~25 km – Ionian shoreline covering the La Plaja beach system.
Ventimiglia (IT – Liguria): ~12 km – Border maritime coastline with high cliff instability.
Local Shorelines & Entities (< 10 km / Networks)
Recco, Loano, Borghetto Santo Spirito, Sori, Furci Siculo, Laigueglia (IT): ~19 km total.
FLAG Laziomarecentro (Anzio, IT): ~40 km – Central Lazio coastal action zone.
Fondation Barbarous (Oran, DZ): ~40 km – Local marine protected areas and bay monitoring in Algeria.
Prospective Pipeline (+600 km target by 2028)
Represents the high-priority coastal hubs currently targeted for integration to scale up project impact across North Africa and Northern Italy:
- Tunisia Target Cities (~360 km): Djerba (~120 km), Tunis (~60 km), Sfax (~50 km), Bizerte (~35 km), Mahdia (~30 km), Sousse (~25 km), Nabeul (~25 km), Monastir (~20 km), Tabarka (~15 km).
- Algeria Target Cities (~205 km): Algiers (~80 km), Jijel (~70 km), Mostaganem (~60 km), Skikda (~50 km), Béjaïa (~45 km), Tipasa (~40 km), Annaba (~35 km).
- Italy Target Cities (~35 km): La Spezia (~20 km), Savona (~8 km), Imperia (~7 km).
Scope Calculation Methodology
The linear distance is calculated using administrative municipal boundaries directly adjacent to sea waters. It explicitly excludes inland territories—such as mountain river basin municipalities in Liguria, inland comarcas in Catalonia (Sagarra), and inland members of AICCRE Sicilia—to guarantee that only coastal and marine interfaces are counted within the scope.
